Assistance dogs - in training
Name: Suga
Breed: Chinese Crested

I have been a brittle diabetic for about 24 years.  Over the years detecting and identifying hypos have become very difficult for me, especially during the night.  I now also have the responsibility of a young child, who has special needs.  With my ever increasing active lifestyle as a parent and extra activities that my child needs, it has become a great concern that I have no warning of an oncoming hypo.  This is causing enormous stress and worry not only for myself but also for my family.

Living alone with my son, together with the knowledge that I can have a undetected hypo, at anytime of the day or night, makes me feel very concerned as there is no one whom can help me.

Recently I found myself at a shopping centre, coming out of a huge hypo and I had no knowledge of how I got there.  I was traveling home and the shopping centre was nowhere near home.  I got such a huge fright and realized that I could have killed myself, my son and/or anyone else. (I was fortunate that I had a jelly beans in the car.)

After suffering a serious hypo I always feel exhausted, left with a headache and no energy to spend on my energetic son.  This situation made me contact Paws for Diabetic and after many discussions with Lorraine (the director of Training) I realized that a PFD dog would relieve an enormous amount of stress not only for me but for my family.
