I have a 2 year old Tenterfield Terrier called "Rex". I bought him to do Agility and Obedience, but decided to show him in conformation shows while he was little.

I have only had diabetes since Feb last year when I was admitted into hospital early one morning and stayed for the rest of the week. I did not know much about diabetes before this, but I have done a few courses and tried to learn as much as I can. I find the Diabetes Living Magazine a great book with lots of information.

Rex decided one morning that I had, had enough sleep and tried his hardest to wake me up. Still dark outside I was not impressed, so I took him outside to go to the toilet as that is what I thought he wanted. Back in bed he decided it was time to play. Eventually after getting into lots of trouble he laid down and went back to sleep. This procedure has happened on quite a few occasions, but it took me a while to work out he didn't need to go to the toilet, he wanted me to wake up because of my sugar.

I feel quite confident that my best mate will let me know my sugar is not right. I have also got a little girl that hopefully will follow in his footsteps.

Rex has been competing in agility and jumping trials since March this year and getting better with every course he jumps. We drove to Darwin in July to compete with Rex in Obedience, Jumping and Agility at the Darwin Royal, and also do the confirmation show with my little girl Pintupi My Lady Madalyn (Maddy).

Well Maddy didn’t get a look at but Rex came home with his first title (Jumping Dog Title). To get this title he needs to have 3 clear rounds and also do this in the time nominated by the judge. In 2 week ends we achieved this and also got a qualifying certificate in Agility and also one in Strategic Pairs.

I am hoping to get his Agility Title by the end of the year.
