I have had Type 1 for nearly 21 years and have always been unstable, no matter what I try. My endo. in Sydney used to tell other doctors and nurses - "if you expect something to happen, Cassie will do the opposite!" When PFD first started there was a lot of discussion on Reality Check and I thought this may help me. I spoke to Lorraine about it and we felt I was a good candidate but my children were a bit young and I should wait until the youngest pair started school - I have 3 boys, Benjamin 8yo, and twins Francis & Oliver 5yo. The time had come, the twins had started school and I was home alone as my husband also works on a trawler. Sharon and her daughter Eryn delivered Pige (pronounced Pia) to us and there was much excitement and love. Pige started alerting very quickly , both hypos and high sugars - she hasn't needed much training, it has been me that needs to learn her signals!! Pige now runs the house and me - I am learning something new every day. She now has a boyfriend - our local vet has been very impressed with her and has mentioned her in the local paper. He is even convincing his family they need to get a whippet! Pige means girl in Danish and actually pronounced 'pea'. We have taken a little licence with the pronunciation as the boys liked Pia. I was diagnosed with type 1 when I was an exchange student in Denmark in 1987. Pige is my new best friend and we do everything together.
