Debbie, Rex & Maddy

Well the time has come that I have decided to retire the boy. Australian Champion Pintupi My Lord Rex JD, SPD, AD. I must admit Rex loves coming out with me, but hates the thought of crowds and other people.

I had him desexed last month, not sure if I did the right thing there or not, but he seems to be a happier dog for it. Just to get him moving a little faster would be good, especially on the agility field, where time counts. Rex gets clear rounds on all his courses but has decided he will get there when he feels like it. Usually after the buzzer goes off, out of time again.

His last competition was while he was in mid air over the last fence. 30 seconds. But he did do a good round. He loves coming out running around thou, so I have decided he will never get me to Masters Courses. But he is my boy.

Maddy (Australian Champion Pintupi My Lady Madalyn JD,) came into our lives after I had Rex titled an Australian Champion. I guess you would say the Show bug got to us, and I did enjoy showing the dogs. Daphne his breeder sent Maddy down for me to continue showing, I had a phone call to tell me to pick up a parcel at Australian Airlines at 1.00 Thursday afternoon and here was this cute little pup inside a crate with a red stuffed toy that was bigger than she was.

I had her titled under 12 months old but there is this ruling in Qld that they need to get there 100 points after 12 months, so we still had to get another 25 points after this.-

She has always been a pleasure to train and work with, she is just such a little lady, but also puts you in your place.

I also have Sally (Little miss petite) as my son calls her, we kidnapped her from Daphne's place last year when we went up to do a show in Rockhampton. Daphne always has a pup or two running around the place. Well here was Sally in a yard with 3 other pups, she was the smallest and the cutest, her ears were like the flying nun and still haven’t changed. So she came home with us.

The girls give Rex a hard time, especially when he wants to play and they don’t, he annoys them that much, they lay in wait for him to come past and they chase him all over the house, or if there in the back yard they lay in the tunnel and wait until he comes too close ,  which is what he wants them to do anyway, not sure who has who trained there.

I take the 3 of them for walks in the morning about 5.00 ish just before it gets light. We do a 4 km round trip, I have a couple of soccer fields at the bottom of my street, which we end up there and they run around the field a couple of times then back home again.

Maddy has a couple of house yards on our walk that she knows there are dogs  and waits patiently for them to come out and bark at her, just so she can chase them up the fence .

Maddy started alerting me when she was about 8 months old. Unlike Rex when I thought he wanted to go to the toilet, I was more aware of what she was trying to tell me. At least she is not as boisterous as Rex , he decides its a mission and wont let up until you wake up, or stand up to get away from him and do something about your highs.

Maddy on the other hand, stands above you on the pillow if you’re in bed, or on the back of the lounge, and stares at you until you look at her, then nips you on the nose.

Maddy loves agility and jumpers and got her first Novice Jumpers Dog title a couple of weeks ago. She is pretty feral on the agility course, but we are starting to get our act together and do as we are told. Up until now she has been doing her own thing. Round and round and round once she has that out of her system she will do what the course is supposed to be. We are getting there.

We also compete in obedience trying to get our CCD title before the end of the year, she has only been in the obedience ring a few times, but the first time in groups the border collie sitting beside her decided she was small enough to play with and jumped on her, well of course she bailed out and ran to mum . The 2nd time in groups 2 x dogs decided to have a fight , same thing she came running back to mum , the 3rd time she did her sit stay ok, but the drop was just getting too much for her and the Doberman sitting beside her was fidgeting and it all got too much. The last time I trialled her, she was last dog in at 10.30 pm , freezing cold and she would got all the way down in her drops . When I picked her up at the end her poor little feet were like ice.
